India Overtakes Japan as the Fifth Largest Hydropower Generator in the World:IHA Report

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ The International Hydropower Association (IHA) has released its 2020 Hydropower Status Report, which notes that India overtook Japan as the fifth largest hydropower generator in the world with an installed capacity of 50.07 GW. The IHA’s report also showed that globally, hydropower generated 4,306 TW of power in 2019, the highest contribution from any renewable energy source recorded in history. Also, 15.6 GW of capacity was added in 2019,and the overall global capacity reached 1,308 GW during the year. China continued to be the world leader in terms of installed capacity with 356.40 GW, followed by Brazil and the United States with 109.6 GW and 102.75 GW, respectively. The IHA said that 50 countries added new hydropower capacity in 2019 and Brazil, with 4.92 GW of additions; China, ...

Uzbekistan launches new international tender for 3 hydropower plants

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ Uzbekistan’s state hydropower producer and developer, Uzbekhydroenergo, announced on June 4 a tender for the design and construction of the Rabat, Chappasuy and Tamshush Hydropower Plants on the Aksu River in the Kashkadarya Region of Uzbekistan. “We are pleased to announce a tender for the design and construction of three new hydropower plants on the Aksu River,” a spokesperson from Uzbekistan’s Energy Ministry said. “These new plants will make a significant contribution to our goal of increasing our power generation capacity. They will also reduce our carbon emissions and grow our clean energy sources. We would also like to thank the Asian Development Bank for its support on this project,” the spokesperson added. The construction of the three hydropower plants is part of Uzbekistan’s Sustai...

India to have 70,000 MW hydropower generation capacity by 2030

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ India will have an installed hydropower generation capacity of 70,000 MW by 2030. The country has around 13,000 MW hydropower plants under various stages of construction and another 8,000 MW projects are in the pipeline which will commence construction in the next six to eight months. The current installed capacity of hydropower in the country stands at around 45,700 MW. India has an estimated hydropower potential of 1,45,000 MW at 60% plant load factor. The Ministry of Power in its draft amendment of the Electricity Act has proposed to include hydropower within the renewable purchase obligation (RPO) targets set for the state power distribution companies. Laos planning new Mekong River Dam

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ L AOS has submitted plans to build a new hydropower dam later this year and started consultations with the Mekong River Commission (MRC). The hydropower project is the sixth proposal out of nine planned mainstream Mekong River dams in Laos. And the Sanakham hydropower plant is estimated to cost US$2.073 billion. Based on the plans, the run-of-river dam will operate all year round and produce 684 mega-watts of electricity. Chinese news agency Xinhua said that in the notification submitted to the MRC Secretariat based here, the Laos government would provide engineering and technical feasibility studies. These included the project's social and environmental impact assessments, and sediment and fisheries study, The construction is expected to begin later this year. It is projected to be completed by...

Hydropower, the only solution for cheapest power generation

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ Hydropower has the lowest life-cycle cost of any power generation technology. Hydropower is a potential life-saver for Pakistan. Yet its development has been hampered for decades. Hence, only 15 percent of Pakistan’s over 60,000MW hydropower potential has been developed in 70 years. Hydropower plants power generation can give a country economy a new path of progress. Despite initial costs and long gestation periods, hydropower plants have almost no fuel cost and have operational lives of over a century. New hydropwer plants generate electricity at Rs6-10 per unit compared to thermal power plants’ Rs15-25 per unit. All other power-generating technologies have up to 30 years of project life and need up to four times expensive plant replacements in foreign exchange. W...

New hydro will help build a sustainable energy future suggests IRENA report

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ Hydropower capacity will need to increase 60% by 2050, with pumped hydro storage capacity needing to double, to help create a sustainable future energy system a new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) suggests. Policy-makers and planners around the world need to "start thinking now" about building new hydropower projects, IRENA said in the Global Renewables Outlook report. In the report IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera urges stimulus and recovery packages as a response to the current Covid-19 pandemic and to “accelerate the shift to sustainable, decarbonised economies and resilient inclusive societies”. Recovery measures should include investment in “interconnected hydropower” among other technologies, La Camera says. “With the need for energy...

Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project receives 60 tons of cement after 17 days

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com 60 tons of cement that were stranded for 17 days due to the lockdown has reached Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project site in Rasuwa district. The construction works had been halted since the last two weeks due to the lockdown. The cement had been transported to Ramche of Rasuwa district on March 24 and had been kept there because of the lockdown. Chhabi Gaire, project head, said that the cement had been transported through six vehicles to the project site on Friday. “The supply had reached Ramche on the first day of the lockdown,” he said, “The supply had to be kept at the location because the movement of vehicles was restricted after the announcement of nationwide lockdown.” The drivers were not allowed to bring the cement to the project site. The cement was taken to the project site in coordination with the Di...
