India will have an installed hydropower generation capacity of 70,000 MW by 2030.
The country has around 13,000 MW hydropower plants under various stages of construction and another 8,000 MW projects are in the pipeline which will commence construction in the next six to eight months.
The current installed capacity of hydropower in the country stands at around 45,700 MW.
India has an estimated hydropower potential of 1,45,000 MW at 60% plant load factor. The Ministry of Power in its draft amendment of the Electricity Act has proposed to include hydropower within the renewable purchase obligation (RPO) targets set for the state power distribution companies.

Types of Hydropower Plants

There are three types of hydropower facilities: impoundment, diversion, and pumped storage. Some hydropower plants use dams and some do not. The images below show both types of hydropower plants. MPOUNDMENT The most common type of hydroelectric power plant is an impoundment facility. An impoundment facility, typically a large hydropower system, uses a dam to store river water in a reservoir. Water released from the reservoir flows through a turbine, spinning it, which in turn activates a generator to produce electricity. The water may be released either to meet changing electricity needs or to maintain a constant reservoir level.                                                www....

Uzbekistan’s hydropower potential to boost RES energy balance with EU help

Uzbekistan’s hydropower potential is growing, and the Central Asian country is looking to boost energy efficiency and increase renewable energy’s share in the country’s energy mix with the help of the European Union, the chairman of Uzbekistan’s state hydropower producer and developer, Uzbekhydroenergo,  Abdugani Sanginov , told New Europe in an exclusive interview. “Hydropower is a renewable energy source and, in this regard, an increase in the share of hydropower in the energy balance of the Republic of Uzbekistan will help reduce the effects of climate change,” Sanginov said, adding that the technically feasible hydropower potential of Uzbekistan is estimated at 27.4 billion kWh per year and currently only 24% of this potential is used. Asked what role the EU can play in supporting renewable energy in Uzbekistan, the Uzbekhydroenergo Chairman said, “The European Union can play an important role in supporting RES in Uzbekistan by providing grants and soft loans for the dev...

Chinese 16000MW Baihetan Hydropower Station will be operated on 1st,July

Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world's second largest after the Three Gorges Dam, is expected to have its last reservoir completed on Monday in Southwest China.  The station, with a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts, is expected to generate more than 62 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which would reduce carbon dioxide emission by about 51.6 million tons, according to experts.  The Baihetan station is located downstream of the Jinsha River, in the upper section of the Yangtze River, in Ningnan county of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, and Qiaojia county in neighboring Yunnan Province.  The construction of the main body of the station is expected to be finished on Monday. Its first unit is scheduled to start operations on July 1. The station will be in full operation by the end of 2022.  The Baihetan hydropower station is the world's first to have a power unit with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts with 111 revolutions per mi...
