Baihetan Hydropower Station set to help with China’s carbon goal

The Baihetan Hydropower Station has officially started storing water as the gate of number two diversion bottom hole closed on April 6, meaning the world's largest hydropower project under construction has taken a critical step toward the goal for the first batch of hydropower units to start generating electricity on July 1.

With the closing of the gate, the reservoir water level began to rise from 655 meters, according to a statement from Sinohydro Engineering Bureau 8 Co, adding that the reservoir water level will be stored to 775 meters in mid-June to meet the conditions for the first batch of hydropower-generating units to start operation. From August to September, the reservoir water will be stored to 800 meters, and then gradually stored to the normal storage level of 825 meters in June 2022.

The total storage capacity of Baihetan Reservoir will be 20.627 billion cubic meters, which accounts for 91 percent of the Jinsha River Basin. The flood control reservoir is an important part of the Yangtze River flood control system, which has a capacity of 7.5 billion cubic meters. Only the Three Gorges Dam and Danjiangkou Reservoir are larger.

The total installed capacity of the power station ranks second in the world, at 16 million kilowatts. The single-unit capacity ranks first in the world at 1 million kilowatts. The new power source will help China reach its carbon emissions targets.

The Baihetan Hydropower Station is the backbone of China's west-to-east transmission program, an important part of the flood control system in the Yangtze River basin, and a landmark project in the development of the global hydropower industry.

Get to know China’s wind farms —— Inner Mongolia Ulanqab Wind Farm(wind power)

Introduction Inner Mongolia is the richest region in China in terms of wind resources and the closest to the country's electricity load, making it ideal for the development of mega wind power bases. Because of its unique wind resources, it has become a haven for investment companies to capture wind power projects. The most representative of these projects is the first phase of the Wulanchabu wind power project, which is the pinnacle of China's wind power industry. Construction time: On September 26, 2019, the world's largest single onshore wind farm, the first phase of the 6 million kilowatt demonstration project of the Ulanqab Wind Power Base, officially began construction.   Total investment: The Wulanchabu Wind Power Base Phase I 6 million kilowatt demonstration project is the first wind power project to be included in the national plan for clean energy parity outbound transmission, with a total static investment of 36.1 billion yuan, making it the largest single onsho...

Water Turbine Design for Small Scale Hydro Energy

https://www.boland-hydroturbine.com/ Selecting the Best Type of Water Turbine Design Selecting the best type of water turbine design for your particular situation often depends on the amount of head and flow rate that is available at your particular location and whether it is at the side of a river or stream, or the water is to be channelled or piped directly to your location. Other factors include whether you want an enclosed “reaction turbine design” such as the Francis turbine or an open “impulse turbine design”, such as the Pelton turbine as well as the speed of rotation of your proposed electrical generator. By analysing all of these factors together you can get some indication of what type of  Water Turbine Design  may work best for your particular situation. Knowing the difference between ...

Get To Know China's Hydropower Plants----Huangdeng Hydropower Station

Introduction At 00:00 on January 1, 2019, four units of Dahuabiao, Huangdeng, Wulonglong and Lidi hydropower stations with a total of 1,092,500 kilowatts were successfully put into operation.  The four units put into operation on the same day once again refreshed the world hydropower  commissioning record of "one-day double commissioning" set by the company on July 12, 2018.  So far, all eight units of Huangdeng and Dahuaqiao hydropower stations have been put into operation. The total installed capacity has reached 24,992,800 kilowatts, the asset size has exceeded 180 billion yuan, and the cumulative power generation has exceeded 570 billion kilowatt hours. Geographic location. Huangdeng Hydropower Station is located in Lanping County, Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is developed by dike and dam, and is the fifth stage hydropower station in the hydropower ladder development program of the upper reaches of the Lancang River in Yunnan Province from Gushui to M...
