  The Iranian and Azerbaijani officials have agreed to move ahead with the construction of dams and hydropower plants on the border river of Araz, which were recently liberated from Armenia's occupation during the Second Karabakh War. Plans for the new plants, known as "Khudafarin" and "Qiz Qalasi" (meaning maiden tower in Azerbaijani), were approved during the third meeting of the technical working group of Iran and Azerbaijan. Construction operations were reviewed by technical experts from both countries, as well as representatives from Azerbaijan Amelioration and Water Farm Company and Azerenerji, the leading power generator and distribution company in Azerbaijan, according to ISNA news agency.   Pakistan’s government is planning to issue a $500 million green bond in the next few months to help boost its development of hydroelectric power. The bond, denominated in euros, will be the government’s first to fund environmental goals, Malik Amin Aslam, an adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan on climate change, said in an interview.   The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Hydropower Association (IHA) have collaborated to advance sustainable hydropower development across the world. Under the terms of the partnership, the two organisations will work together to accelerate the financing, development, and deployment of sustainable hydropower. IHA CEO Eddie Rich said: “While hydropower will continue to play an essential role in global electricity, hydropower’s flexibility and storage capabilities are also important to complement variable renewables such as wind and solar.   The Philippines’ Department of Energy (DOE) announced a tender for five geothermal projects and 17 hydropower projects which will be awarded in April. The DOE's plans include five geothermal projects and 17 hydropower projects with a total potential generation capacity of 150 MW. The five geothermal projects cover areas Daklan, Itogon, Putting Lupa, Maricaban island and Mt.Labo with totally 87 MW potential capacity, according to a DOE statement. All the 22 projects will be offered to qualified renewable energy developers deemed eligible based on the criteria set by the DOE. The PPA has enough technical information for preliminary reference by those interested in acquiring renewable energy development rights. The deadline to submit bid documents will be 15 February.
